Wednesday

Today we finished working on the top set of bonding beams (big support beams of solid concrete). That was a lot of shoveling gravel, sand and cement, then mixing them and carrying it in buckets to wherever it was needed. The workers all know us pretty well now, so they just call our name when they want us to try something or help them in a line. We were ahead of schedule so some of the crew started putting mortar on the walls! It takes a lot of skill to slap it up there just right. We got to visit with a few watchers on our water breaks, there is a lot of laughter as we try out the little bits of Kreole that we have learned. It was a good day of hard work and we are looking forward to our day off while the Haitians finish putting the mortar on the walls. We get to visit Merger tomorrow morning, and will probably visit the job site tomorrow afternoon to see the progress and visit with our new friends. Pray that tomorrow would be restful, so we are ready to finish the roof on Friday.
This is how you use a ladder in Haiti. (Mario, Jackson, Boss Frito)
Between jobs...or looking for nails! (Jean Robert, Christa, Joe)
Boss Mario, the Grande Boss of the job site, laying brick for the sloped roof.
Mario and Jean Robert stuffing the cracks so we can pour concrete (beyton) for the support beam.

One of the inside rooms that Boss Beyton, and Boss Frito are throwing mortar on. The entire house will be covered to give it an even look. The family can decide if they would like to paint it later.
