Erik & Rebekah Buchterkirchen

In October, we welcomed Erik Buchterkirchen to the Glenwood staff as our Director of Young Adult Ministries.

A native of the Silicon Valley, Erik grew up in Santa Clara, CA. During his time in college, he met his wife Rebekah, and they got married in 2015. Throughout his life, Erik has participated in various ministry venues, from worship, interfaith dialogues, and leading multiple mission trips to Latin American countries and throughout the state of Utah. Most recently, he served as a High School Pastor for four years in Auburn, CA.

Erik is a self-proclaimed coffee snob, fitness enthusiast, and a forever faithful of the San Francisco 49ers. He holds a B.A. in Biblical Studies and Theology from Biola University and is currently finishing up his M.Div. at Western Seminary.

The Buchterkirchens are grateful to be part of Glenwood Community Church and love serving the community of young adults at The Calling. 

 

Director of Young Adult Ministries Job Description

Glenwood Community Church exists to glorify God by challenging, encouraging, and equipping people to become like Jesus in every vital relationship by loving God, loving others, and influencing others to love God. 

 

Definition

 

The Director of Young Adult Ministries is responsible for the development, management, leadership, and care of the Young Adult Ministries at Glenwood Community Church. This individual will work in close partnership with the High School and Adult Ministries at Glenwood to lead strategic ministry for young adults that advances the mission of our church. This position is directly supervised by the Executive Pastor. This is a part-time paid position.

Responsibilities

 

Act as the primary teacher in the Young Adult Ministries for Tuesday night gatherings
Lead summer camps, winter retreats, outreach events, and other major events for young adults
Plan and oversee activities that engage the lost, grow believers, develop leaders, and connect young adults to people in other stages of life at Glenwood
Develop future leaders through effective recruiting, organizing, supervising, encouraging, supporting and evaluating interns, ministry volunteers, and young adults

Build and maintain quality, life-giving and redemptive relationships
Provide pastoral care and direction for young adults
Provide spiritual leadership to the Young Adult Ministries through embodying a deepening love for God through, among other things, regular Bible reading and prayer
Plan, implement, and administrate the Young Adult Ministries budget
Foster and live out a spirit of cooperation and teamwork with fellow church staff regarding all ministry resources
 

In addition to these responsibilities, the Director of Young Adult Ministries may provide leadership and serve in other ministry areas of the church as assigned by the Executive Pastor.
 

Expectations and Evaluation

 

The Director of Young Adult Ministries will regularly attend Sunday morning worship services as well as priority events (baptism services, annual meeting, Christmas Eve, etc.). A review of the responsibilities and performance of this position will occur annually. A reevaluation may be requested at any time by the Executive Pastor, the Executive Team, or the Director of Young Adult Ministries.

 

Experience and Education

 

The ideal candidate will have at least:

Several years of ministry experience in a church setting
An undergraduate degree in a ministry related field or the equivalent
