Our Parent Connection gathered in February to continue the discussion on the power of words.
News
Monday thru Wednesday the team drove through congested traffic to serve in the community of Merger. We split into 2 teams: one team working alongside Haitians replacing roofs; the other team playing games and doing activities with children.
Team #1 consisted of 2 guys (+4 Haitians) on the roof nailing in wooden rafters and currogated tin sheets; and 2 guys (+1 Haitian) on the ground moving beams and tin to the men on the roof and making sure they had enough water. The Haitian bosses, volunteers from Merger, and our guys all worked really well together!
Our Parent Connection continued the theme of Conflict and the Power of Words.
After a good night's sleep, we got up early on Sunday morning for the church service in Merger. They were finishing Sunday school when we went in and cleared two rows of seats for our team. We were welcomed by Pastor Samuel, who invited Brandon to come up and say a few words to the congregation. Brandon expressed our excitement and thankfulness for being there, and our host interpreted. The 3-hour service was full of loud singing and passionate prayers.
Glenwood’s outreach strategy is to be involved in sending those called to serve on a long term basis, to assist the development of national missionaries and leaders and to send short term Global Outreach (GO) Teams to these areas. Glenwood has been involved in Haiti for many years and is eager to support ministry in any number of ways. A team has gone to Merger and Port-au-Prince to assist in various projects in the communities there. Check back for team updates as we receive them.

On Sunday, January 28, 2018, a special congregational meeting was held to make Nathan Nymeyer a Pastor. This does not change his present ministry focus, but does place him on the board of elders. Thank you to the 160 voting members who were present. We are pleased to announce the motion passed unanimously!
According to our church constitution, the nominating committee’s responsibility is to present church board nominees for Glenwood member vote at the Annual Meeting. Looking at 1 Timothy 3:1-13, a nominee should demonstrate spiritual maturity, manage his household well, manifest a servant’s heart, and endeavor to live his life above reproach.
On January 28 we are having a special congregational meeting in the Worship Center immediately following the second service. The church board is recommending that we change the job title for Nathan Nymeyer from Director to Pastor. This does not change his present ministry focus, but does place him on the board of elders. According to our church constitution, this recommendation requires a congregational vote. If you are a voting member of Glenwood, please reserve time for this meeting in your schedule. Your presence is very important!
The Gospel Project for Adults takes men and women on a chronological, Christ-centered journey through the storyline of the Bible. Each week, in the same passages as our children and youth, we will encounter God’s plan of redemption through the study of the Bible’s story, the essential doctrines of the Christian faith, and the call to join in God’s mission locally and around the world. This class is built so that if you miss a week, it’s okay to jump back in the following week.
